Wotancraft premium camera strap test - genuine leather, genuine craftsmanship

Our thoughts on the Wotancraft Premium Camera Strap...

A camera strap that can do more than "just hold"

If you regularly deal with camera equipment, you know: Not everything that is advertised as "premium" actually holds up.
Wotancraft provided me with its new double-sided leather camera straps free of charge - and I took the time to look at them, test them and categorize them.

What can you expect in this article? An honest assessment - neither hype nor a review.

Material & workmanship - What immediately stands out

The belt is made entirely from full-grain, vegetable-tanned leather - on both sides.
This means: no lining material, no coated back, but genuine leather through and through. The feel is immediately noticeably different - pleasant to the touch, solid and with that certain "leather smell" that many people appreciate.

At 3.8 mm thick, the strap is more robust than many standard versions, but remains surprisingly flexible.
The edges are polished by hand - similar to high-quality watch straps. This ensures that the strap does not pinch or rub uncomfortably on the neck or wrist, even after prolonged use.

Processing in detail - less show, more craftsmanship

An exciting detail: the straps are made using the "whole-cut" method - i.e. from a single piece of leather, without any disruptive seams or attached parts.
This not only looks elegant, but also ensures greater stability.

The seam is sewn by hand with waxed linen thread using the "double saddle stitch" technique. This means that even if one thread breaks, the rest remains stable - a characteristic of genuine craftsmanship.

Two connection systems - classic or modern

Wotancraft offers two mounting options:

  1. CURA brass rings - traditional, durable, develop a beautiful patina over time
  2. Peak Design Anchor Links - quick-release system, ideal for anyone switching between harness, gimbal or tripod

Both variants are well thought out and of high quality. The personal workflow is the deciding factor here.

My conclusion - quality without the fuss

I didn't actively look for the straps, they were sent to me.
The quality is undoubtedly very high, the design is simple and designed to last. I think that if you like leather belts and have a certain standard, Wotancraft is a serious option.

At the same time, I would also like to say that there are other good suppliers. I don't base my recommendations on who sends me a test sample - but on what convinces me in the long term.

Who is the belt suitable for?

  • For anyone who has had enough of standard nylon straps
  • For photographers who value durable, well-made materials
  • For people who like products that become more beautiful with time (patina!)
